Function in memory of the late Absar Abdul Azeez

DOHA: The Art wing of the Indian Community Recreation Centre (ICRC) will hold a function in memory of the late Absar Abdul Azeez, a child prodigy from Kerala, at its premises today at 7.30pm.

The poetic works of 13-year old Absar, son of Abdul Azeez Manjiyil, a Doha-based writer, were compiled into a book, which was published after his death under the title Manideepam, an organiser said yesterday.

The Art Wing will present its ‘Absar golden medal’ to winners of a literary competition it conducted recently. The prize is sponsored by World Rent a Car,

A website designed by Bharathnet, a Kochi-based firm, on Absar will be launched by ICC president K C Varghese. V A Kabeer, Sadiya Nasar, who translated Manideepam into English, Bhushra Shawkath and Sunila Jobi will speak on the occasion. ICRC Chairman SAM Basheer will preside over the function.

ICRC invites entries for literary competition Web posted at: 5/18/2004 8:16:11 Source ::: The Peninsula DOHA: Entries have been invited for the Malayalam literary competition for the ICRC Art Wing Absar Golden Award. The award is instituted in the memory of the late child poet Absar Manjiyil who died in an accident on June 26 last year. He was a student of Ideal Indian School till the third standard and had moved to his native place to continue studies, with his mother and two brothers and sister. During his short span of life, he wrote a few short stories, poems and some essays, which can be rated as good, say critics. Manideepam’s third edition will be released soon and English translation also be released shortly. All students in the Middle East aged between 13 and 18 can participate in this competition. Interested students may send their poems, certified by their school authorities. An ICRC statement yesterday said all entries must reach on or before June 10, 2004, at ICRC Art wing, Post Box 14273, Doha, Qatar, or fax: 4622303.
